An organisation is a technology for coordinating work — and like all technology, it was shaped by its era's constraints. Hierarchy exists because human communication is expensive: information had to be compressed, batched, and routed through managers like packets through routers.

Agents delete that constraint. Coordination overhead — the thing middle layers exist to absorb — approaches zero when the workers are processes that share context perfectly and never misremember a meeting.
