The cost of trying just hit zero. Strategy hasn't caught up.
Twenty years ago an experiment cost a team and a year. Ten years ago, a developer and a quarter. Today an idea can be tested for the price of a conversation.
Here's what almost everyone misses: when experiments were expensive, strategy meant choosing the one right bet, because you could only afford one. Boards, decks, conviction theatre — all of it was rational rationing of a scarce resource.
The resource isn't scarce anymore. So the discipline inverts: run many cheap bets, judge ruthlessly, feed the winners. Strategy stops being prediction and becomes selection.
When trying is free, judgment is the budget — and the companies still rationing experiments are managing a scarcity that no longer exists.
Tomorrow: the product that reads to you.
